# 04. Data Mode

Use Data mode to investigate data and the current report without asking the AI to redesign the report.

Typical requests include:

* “Find the Sales index and show revenue by region for 2026.”
* “Run a crosstab of Status by Department with a count total.”
* “Show a crosstab of Team by Month with a distinct count of Customers.”
* “Find the saved report named Monthly Exceptions and describe its filters.”
* “Explain the largest changes visible in this report.”

## Queries and crosstabs

The assistant can discover indexes and their exact field names before running operations. Query text uses CXAIR/Lucene-style syntax, not SQL. Crosstabs can return tables or supported chart images. Totals can also report distinct counts using the dynamic views configured on the index — for example, a count of unique customers rather than a count of records.

**Be specific.** Include the index or report name, required fields, filters, date range, grouping and measure. If a field name is uncertain, ask the assistant to find the index first.

## Saved reports

The assistant can search saved reports by name, retrieve metadata and execute a selected report. If several reports have similar names, provide the folder or other distinguishing details and confirm the selected report before relying on the result.

## AI report elements

Pages reports can contain AI-driven elements such as commentary and report summaries. Their output is generated using the selected model, configured prompt and report or crosstab context. Regenerate and review the content when underlying data changes.
