# 06. Effective Prompting

## A useful prompt pattern

Goal: what you want to achieve
Context: index, saved report, page or element
Constraints: filters, fields, style, dimensions or exclusions
Output: table, chart, explanation or report change
Verification: what the assistant should check
```

## Examples

**Data:** “Using the Customer Service index, show a crosstab of Case Status by Team for cases opened from 1 January 2026. Use count as the total and return a table. Do not modify the report.”

**Design:** “On the current page, add a bar chart of case count by Team beneath the title. Match the existing palette, retain readable labels, and verify the result with a screenshot.”

**Troubleshooting:** “Find the saved report named Weekly Capacity, retrieve its metadata, and explain which index, query and filters it uses. Do not execute or modify it.”

## Confirmation and ambiguity

Confirm destructive or broad changes before proceeding. If multiple indexes, saved reports, pages or elements match a request, provide identifying details rather than allowing the assistant to guess.
