Learn more about the process of designing and building a Pages report to streamline the creation process and make your reports as effective as possible.

To realise the full, time saving benefits of using Pages’ drag & drop interface and to ensure your reports align with your organisation’s priorities we recommend you follow this process:

1. Design the structure of your report.
1. Map this structure to a Pages report.
1. Create a Pages report template.
1. Build your Pages report.
1. Share your Pages report.

Each of these steps is explored below.

= 1. Design the Structure of your report =

Before opening Pages, outlining the structure of your dashboard helps to improve how effectively your Pages report shares data and makes the process of building your report much more straightforward.

== Structural considerations ==

When designing your dashboard report consider:

* What data the report //needs// to include.
* What data is most important to your report’s users.
* How you’ll layout & group data to create a visual hierarchy – communicating what’s important – in the report and the impact this has on the structure of the report.

== Capturing reporting requirements ==

To get started, speak to your report users to better understand their reporting needs.

Then using a pen & paper or whiteboard, list all the reporting requirements. Group related requirements as appropriate. Rewrite this list in order of importance, before sketching the structure of each page or your dashboard, to reflect this hierarchy.

= 2. Map this Structure to a Pages Report =

Once you’ve sketched out the structure of your dashboard, map this to a Pages report.

This structure will largely be similar but consider:

* Which of Pages’ reporting components are most appropriate to effectively display the report’s data.
* What interactivity – drill-throughs, filtering, context sharing – will make the report more useful.
* How you can use Pages’ advanced layout options – Layers & Tiles – to share data more effectively.

= 3. Create a Template for Your Pages Report =

Creating templates make the process of building reports less time consuming, and your finished reports visually more consistent, by removing the need to repeatedly style jobs and allowing you to reuse styled elements.

Pages’ templating system allows you to set a saved report as a template that you, or anyone with permissions to access that report, can use again as the basis of other reports, and allows you to save & share styled components – for example, text boxes styled to look like buttons – to be reused.

= 5. Share your Pages Report =

Once your Pages report is built, it’s ready to share.

To do this you have a number of options:

* Save to public location.
* PDF and distribute.
